As our students begin their Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert exams this week, I’d like to share a prayer that has meant a lot to me and might bring comfort to anyone feeling anxious or overwhelmed.
When I was preparing for my own Leaving Cert, many years ago, our priest in Beaufort, Fr. Nicky Walsh (RIP), gave me this prayer. I said it before every exam and continued to use it throughout my life. It gave me great strength, calm and confidence.
This prayer is often used by students who feel anxious about exams. It doesn’t replace study but offers a spiritual boost and comfort.
Dear St. Joseph of Cupertino, who by your prayer obtained from God the grace to be asked in your examination only the questions you knew.
Grant for me, through thine intercession, success in the examination for which I am now preparing (mention the name of the exam here, e.g., Maths Paper 1).
In return, I promise to make you known and cause you to be invoked.
Amen.
Wishing you all courage, calm minds and steady hands. You’ve worked hard – now trust yourselves and take each step with confidence. You’ve got this!
