“The School wishes to educate its pupils in happy and pleasant surroundings”
In the spirit of our mission statement, the school has constantly worked to maintain & improve its facilities. From very humble beginnings – initially in the Carnegie Library in Market Street – the school has continuously endeavoured to make the physical environment as pleasant as possible for the students, teachers, parents and the many members of the wider community who spend time here.
In 1988, the ISK moved to a new site on Iveragh Road in Killorglin. This new building has increased in size since then to cater for the growing student population. The school is proud of the many facilities we have to offer our students. As well as having state of the art classrooms – each with an Interactive Whiteboard – we have purpose built; a new Science Building, 2 Home Economics Rooms, 1 Computer Laboratory, 1 Technical Graphics Room, 1 Construction Studies Room, 1 Language Laboratory. Each of these rooms have up to date equipment for the teaching of these subjects. In addition there is a recently built Library which, as well as books & periodicals, contains many computers for student use.
The school has a very strong sporting tradition & there are two Astro Turf pitches on the site, a Gym, three tennis courts and a grass pitch.
The focal point of the school is the “Well” where; Assemblies, Concerts, Public Speaking Competitions, Masses, Information Evenings etc; are held. As well as having an Art Room, a Stage & a Music Room, there is a Grand Piano which is used by students to encourage those with a creative leaning.
To sate the appetite there is a Canteen that serves delicious and healthy food.
